Zine Show and Tell

July 13, 2010

If you lurk around the ziney regions of the internet you might have heard about the zine show and tell I have organised for this weekend. The idea behind it was to have a zine event that was fun and useful but not focussed on selling.

What is going to happen at it? Well it’s the first one of such things I have organised, so I am not sure. It will involve cake and tea, zines, people showing and telling (bring zines or anything else interesting! Note: you will not forced to participate if you are too shy, I do work as a teacher but am sensitive to the shy), and having an all round fun and interesting Sunday afternoon (hopefully).

Urchin books is a great secondhand bookshop in Marrickville that has been around for a year or so, and they do stock some zines and are interested in supporting them. Being a bit of a bookstore fiend I’m happy to find a zine friendly one. Pulp books in Newtown used to sell zines when it was operating and since that closed down zines in Sydney shops have been hard to find. The MCA zine fair published a vast list of shops that sell zines in their guide to this year’s event, but I’m not so sure that all those places really do.

Anyway, this is getting off the topic now. Come along on Sunday if you are in Sydney. I’ll be debuting a zine and I have heard rumours of others doing so too.

PS. Cake suggestions welcome. I bake a good cake and like requests.

    Hi Vanessa,

Show and Tell on Sunday was great. It was good to meet other zine people, swap zines and exchange info and ideas. Many thanks for tea and cake as well. Cheers, MZ.
