March 26, 2011

If you listen to Radio National today you can hear a documentary about  the Olympia Milk Bar. As one of the fans of the Olympia, I am one of the voices you will hear.

    Hi Vanessa,
Heard the doco yesterday… really liked it.
Also like your blog… and bands lie straight jaket Fits (or the “Fitz”) in the Kiwi accent.
Brent Clough once did a great show with Stinky Jim on his old show Other Worlds. Also whole shows on thngs like motel music.

Thanks! It was good to hear all the Olympia tales compiled, and yes, I am forever a fan of those kiwi bands.

Perhaps too late to comment, but I lived up the road from the Olympia for some years and often wondered about it as I walked past. It is interesting to know that others have noticed it also.

I was always too personally afraid to enter it as I once daydreamed that it was actually some sort of portal in time through which one would be delivered to the mid 60s, unable to return. This eventually went from daydream to suburban legend (well in my mind) and thus I never entered.

I don’t think you are alone in being too afraid to enter! It is a reasonable reaction.
