Gigloo Video Mix Tape Premiere

May 12, 2011

These days every op shop has a large section of VHS films. It makes it easy to discover what people’s favourite films were: every store has a copy of Dirty Dancing and Titanic, for example. There are also plenty of VHS players to watch them with, piled up in the electricals section. The staff look grateful if you buy one.

We have 4 VHS players at the moment, two of which are connected to the TV and a DVD player via a cats cradle of different cords. Simon has been using them to make a movie mixtape, the premiere of which will be this Saturday at the Tiny Stadiums Festival in the Gigloo: look for the large inflatable igloo on Erskineville Rd.

The Gigloo, in a previous life in the suburbs

The mix tape is of 150 different scenes from movies: forgotten, odd, curious, funny, important, trivial. From Howard’s End to Snakes on a Plane and anything and everything you could imagine in between. There’s an accompanying zine, and accompanying popcorn. It’s winter! Come into the igloo and watch movies with us. We’ll be in there from 11am – 3pm.

Ohhh, I do wish I could be there! I now also want my very own Gigloo…

Have a fabulous afternoon – will the zine be available at Sticky or online?

Hi Vetti! The Gigloo is very cosy inside, though we had some trouble on the day with the wind. Nevertheless we had a fine time inside. The zine is more Simon’s than mine, I will have to ask him if he’s going to send any to Sticky. I’ll get back to you.
