About
Vanessa Berry is a Sydney writer and artist who works with history, memory and archives. She is the author of Gentle and Fierce (2021), and Mirror Sydney (2017), a collection of essays and hand-drawn maps that investigate the city’s marginal places and undercurrents. Her previous work includes the memoirs Ninety 9 (2013) and Strawberry Hills Forever (2007), as well as the long-running zine series I Am a Camera (2000–present). Since 2012 she has written the Sydney psychogeography blog Mirror Sydney. Vanessa’s zines have been exhibited at the MCA, National Gallery of Australia, State Library of Victoria, and at numerous artist-run galleries, and are held in the collections of many zine libraries in Australia and around the world.
Vanessa lives and works, with respect and gratitude, on the never-ceded sovereign lands of the Gadigal people.
